The Red Panther - Gravita

After thinking of building a pull-up rack, I decided to build a rack for my dumbbells and plates.

I quickly sketched a basic design so I had a good picture in my head. These are the first pieces of wood, to get an idea of the size and the final shape.

To the left you see a part of my current pull-up rack, on the ground on some towel I have my weights. Of course I had to start with building a weights rack first!

Another successful attempt at putting the loose pieces of wood together to figure out how to make it work with the weights.

Every new project somehow also spawns new jigs. This is a simple centerline jig. I use it to quickly mark the centerline on all the beams of wood, so I know where to drill.

First dry fit of all the wooden beams and bolts and nuts. It was a tight fit, but everything got together with the hammer.

Most wood chips I ever had for a project. Luckily these are chips, and not dust. The drill press turns relatively slow, not like my dust-creating edge router that spins superfast.

I add these triangles for support. It's a weight rack after all, although the rack is very strong because of the tight fit.

Stainless steel bolts and nuts. Expensive, and slightly longer than the hardware store usually sells. Had to wait a long time before they arrived.

Black paint with a roller was the fastest way. Still not fast, I spend hours watching paint dry.

The base is ready. And sturdy.

Time to put a label on it. G for Gravita. Copper again.

Another feel for the final function of this thing. The dumbbells need some kind of edge so they don't roll off.

I secured two pieces of wood that function as the edge.

I can grow or shrink the edge by removing/adding washer rings. That's why I usually use bolts and nuts, and not screws, so things can easily be put together.

Adding some rubber feet.
